Dr. Bottomley completed his undergraduate work at the University of Rhode Island and graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He began his clinical medical career in equine medicine and surgery, completing residencies in Veterinary Pathology at Cornell University and Kansas State University.

Dr. Bottomley held a Cornell appointment at the San Diego Zoo as a Pathology Resident, and was a Comparative Medicine and Pathology Resident at the University of Chicago, where he studied the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. His NASA funded research at Kansas State University involved studying the effects of space flight on corneal development and sequencing the gene that encodes for corneal extracellular matrix.

Dr. Bottomley attended the Yale University Medical School Physician Associate program as a National Health Service Corps scholarship recipient. He was a family practice PA at the Hill Health Center, an inner city Yale-affiliated community health center in New Haven, CT.

His academic medicine career began as a Yale clinical preceptor at “The Hill.” Dr. Bottomley was the first Academic Coordinator and Vice Chair at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences PA Program. Other academic appointments include: Associate Director of Research and Interim Program Director at the Yale PA program, and Director of the Central Michigan PA program.

Dr. Bottomley has been awarded more than $700,000.00 in federal grant money to support his interests in minority student recruitment and geriatric medicine. He has published in the areas of molecular biology, neurology, and development of clinical skills. He also has served on the Pathway II committee of the National Board of Medical Examiners, the group that writes one of the recertification examinations for Physician Assistants. He is currently in his second term as chair of the Physician Assistant Education Association’s National Honor Society (Pi Alpha) committee.

Dr. Bottomley is certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), and is a member of the Pennsylvania Society of Physician Assistants and the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

Michael Huber brings to the program a diverse clinical and teaching background in internal medicine, infectious disease, and HIV/AIDS management and research. His teaching and clinical experience started before his graduation from the Hahnemann University Physician Assistant Program. He comes to this program with nine years of previous PA faculty and program administration experience from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. 

His affiliations with organizations like Action AIDS, Philadelphia Fight, the Mazzoni Center and many other community outreach programs have continued to offer valuable leadership, development, and success to these organizations. His determination to offer quality community health care and education lead him to his most recent appointments at Graduate Hospital and the Mazzoni Center in Philadelphia.  With these organizations he served as a clinician, counselor and director of research for an outpatient HIV/AIDS practice and several community outreach programs, renown for their leading HIV/AIDS therapies and public health services.

Professor Huber’s dedication for teaching and ongoing involvement in community-based educational programs will continue to offer enrichment and value to the Pennsylvania College of Optometry PA program. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from Hahnemann University and a Master of Medical Science degree from Saint Francis College. He is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Pennsylvania Society of Physician Assistants. Debra Farina has an extensive clinical background and brings those skills to the program.  With her seven years of experience in emergency medicine, she has acquired many skills in procedures and treating patients of all ages with varied medical problems.   She has practiced in both urban and suburban hospitals.  Other areas of practice include primary care, internal medicine, OB/GYN, and psychiatry.

During her years of practice, she has precepted both PA students and medical students.  She is an ACLS instructor and currently certified in both BLS and PALS.  In addition to being licensed as a physician assistant she also holds a current registered nurse license in Pennsylvania.  Prior to becoming a physician assistant, she practiced as a critical care nurse and currently lectures to both nurses and other medical personnel.

She is a nationally board certified Physician Assistant and is currently licensed to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of Pennsylvania.  With a Bachelor of Science degree from Philadelphia University she is currently working towards her master’s degree.  Memberships include the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Pennsylvania Society of Physician Assistants.

After graduating from the University of Delaware, Dr. Yenal earned his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School. An internship in anesthesiology at the University of Texas in Galveston followed, then Dr. Yenal completed his residency in family practice at Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, PA. He is board certified (AAFP) in family practice and his clinical experience and practice extend from newborns to pediatrics to adults and include pre-natal and geriatric care.

Dr. Yenal brings considerable educational experience to his position as Medical Director. He has been a preceptor for medical students from Duke University’s School of Medicine and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine at Chapel Hill. Additionally, he lectured and supervised Family Practice resident physicians at Virtua Memorial Hospital Burlington County in Mt. Holly, NJ, and taught Internal Medicine resident physicians at Easton Hospital in Pennsylvania.

Licensed to practice medicine in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Dr. Yenal is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the American Medical Association (AMA), the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians (PAFP) and Temple Physicians, Incorporated.
