ANOTHER GREEN OPPORTUNITY

The Lions Club is recycling empty ink cartridges as a way to raise needed funds. This is a way to help support a great cause and our environment. Please drop your empty ink cartridges (not toner cartridges, please) into the collection box set up outside of room 410W at Elkins Park.
(Please note: If anyone at TEI would like to take the lead on this and set up a collection box, please contact Marie Szolna at extension 1526).

The Executive Council and Student Council have announced this year’s Professor of the Year recipients. The annual awards are voted on by the students from each of the College’s programs.

This year the following faculty have the honor of being named Professor of the Year by their students:

Dr. Lombardi has been named Professor of the Year more times than any member of the faculty at the College. The awards were presented at the Student Council banquet.

DR. HUEBNER WINS SHOTWELL AWARD

Dr. Kathleen M. Huebner, Associate Dean, Graduate Studies in Vision Impairment and Co-Director, National Center for Leadership in Vision Impairment (NCLVI), will receive the Ambrose M. Shotwell Award at the AER (Association for the Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired) annual convention in July.

The award is named for a co-founder of the American Blind Peoples' Higher Improvement Association, founded in 1895, and honors an individual who has made "significant outstanding contributions to the personal adjustment or rehabilitation of adults who are blind or visually impaired... and whose leadership contributions have had an impact on a national or international level."

DR. VERMA GOES TO WASHINGTON

In March, PCO Assistant Professor, Dr. Satya Verma, attended the National Council on Aging's (NCOA) annual conference in Washington DC.

A member of the Board of the NCOA and Chairman of its Public Policy Committee, Dr. Verma met with legislative staff from U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) and U.S. Representative Allyson Schwartz's (D-PA) offices.

Under discussion was support for two bills: HR-1983, the Optometric Equity in Medicaid Act and HR - 1884, which will end the exclusion of optometrists in the National Health Service Corps.

As part of Capitol Hill Day activities sponsored by the National Council on Aging, Dr. Verma also discussed issues affecting older adults and aging baby boomers, an area in which he has earned a national reputation.
