Role at PCO:

Dr. Lewis has served as President of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, his alma mater, since 1989. The President has the ultimate managerial responsibility for the fiscal accountability and viability of the institution; the development of new resources for the College; charting the future course of its educational programs and on-going institutional planning and research.

Prior to his appointment, he served as Dean of Academic Affairs (1979-1989); as Chief of Professional Staff at The Eye Institute (1977-1979); and as Director of the Division of Biological Sciences (1975-1978).

Dr. Lewis has more than two decades of teaching experience both nationally and internationally. He currently holds the rank of Professor of Anatomy at PCO, where he has twice been selected by students as Educator of the Year. In addition, he is an active faculty member of the College’s Continuing Education department, where his area of expertise is glaucoma. Dr. Lewis has also provided expert testimony to numerous state legislatures concerning therapeutic drug legislation and expanding the scope of optometry.

Dr. Lewis is the co-editor of Primary Care of the Glaucomas, published in 1992 and 2000, and has been a frequent contributor to both optometric and other professional journals. In addition, he holds editorial responsibilities for the Review of Optometry. He has also made numerous presentations to the American Academy of Optometry and other groups.
